“So, tell me a little bit about you,” Menace said as I went in on my burger and fries from Checkers. The weather was nice out, so we decided to grab the food and sit outside at one of the empty tables to eat. We weren’t on a date, so I didn’t mind grabbing some quick, cheap food.

So that I wouldn’t look like a slob, I made sure to wipe my mouth and swallow my food before answering. “Why do you want to know anything about me?”

He smirked before sipping on his milkshake. “Damn, a nigga can’t even have a conversation with you?”

“No…” I paused to gather my thoughts and also to pop another fry into my mouth. “It’s not that. I’m just not a very interesting person.”

I wasn't lying. There wasn't really much that I did in my everyday life other than go to work or spend time with Rico.

“Okay, so let me hear about your uninteresting ass life.” He glared at me, never looking away as he waited for me to respond. The way he looked at me felt like he was looking into my soul.

God, this man is fine! I thought to myself.

“Well, my mom left me with my uncle at an early age, and he’s the other father I ever knew. So, I’m here in town for his funeral at the end of this week, and I caught my boyfriend fucking my roommate in my shower the same day I found out my dad died and that I’d been laid off.”

My life really was uninteresting yet complicated at the same time.

“Damn, I’m sorry to hear that. You forever have a guardian angel watching over you now, and as far as the fuck nigga that cheated on you, it’s his loss. Fuck that nigga and your moms for abandoning you.”

He reached across the table and held out his hand. I gave him a coy smile before placing my hand in his. He massaged the back of my hand and smiled back at me.

Girl, what in the hell is going on? Is this man flirting with you?

I couldn’t tell if he was flirting with me or not, but if he was, he sure as hell was giving me mixed signals. We got off to a rough start with him breaking my phone, then he replaced the phone, and now here we were all alone with him rubbing the back of my hand and staring into my eyes like he was all in love and shit. I was confused as hell, to say the least.

“Thank you. I really appreciate that.”

“No problem.”

“Uh, can I have my hand back? I’m kind of still in the middle of eating.”

“Oh shit.” He chuckled, removing his hand from mine. “My bad.”

“Trust me, it's okay.”

I took another bite of my burger as he practically continued to stare into my soul. I didn’t know if I felt uncomfortable or flattered with the way he was looking at me.

“So, other than Mano, do you have any other siblings?” I changed the subject.
